Our country is not only home to the wildlife biodiversity that it’s been blessed with, but it’s also home to some of the world’s most beautiful and rarest gemstones. Immerse Africa welcomes you to Tanzania, Home of Tanzanite, one of the rarest gemstones in the world. We invite you to visit the Mererani and Lemshuku hills where Tanzanite and Green Garnet are found respectively. Experiencing this gemstone tour will be an experience of a lifetime. The main gemstone that we focus on this tour is Tanzanite, Tsavorite, and Tourmaline, which are all mined in an area called Mererani hills (Mererani)which is just adjacent to Moshi.
Why is this tour special because it allows you to see and understand the whole mining process of the Tanzanite gemstones which it’s the only known source in the world a 4km strip of land near Mount Kilimanjaro, northern Tanzania? This single limited source renders Tanzania at least a thousand times rarer than diamonds. Understanding the mining process can be very interesting as it allows you to experience how local miners and big-scale miners do their work and how they interact and operate in the same environment. You will get to meet up with the miners personally and exchange ideas and hear their stories, on how they ended up in the mining industry and how they feel about their jobs, and much more. You will also get a chance to camp and visit the mining shafts so you can see where all those gemstones and jewelry are from to end up in people, wrists, ears, or necks.
Tanzanite
Tanzanite is in the variety of the Zoisite (a calcium aluminum hydroxyl Sorosilicate) It was discovered in the Mererani Hills of Manyara in Northern Tanzania in 1967, near the city of Arusha and Kilimanjaro. Naturally formed tanzanite is extremely rare, still found only in the Mererani Hills. Tanzanite represents a happy life filled with fortune
Tsavorite has earned its place as one of the world’s finest colored gemstones. Its high refractive index and dispersion levels translate into wonderful brilliance and it is far less included than its cousin, Emerald. It belongs to the variety of Grossular garnet. It was discovered in 1967 near the Komolo village in northeastern Tanzania’s Lelatema hills by Scottish geologist Campbell bridges.
Immerse Africa offers you a gem tour that will give you an unforgettable journey filled with adventure as we visit mining sites both in Mererani and Lemshuku in Tanzania. The tour will last two days and one night
